Public transport near Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

Trains from AMS Airport

Upon arrival at AMS, you can easily find the Schiphol Station. The airport`s bus station can be found right outside Schiphol Plaza, which is a few minutes walk from the Arrivals zone. Amsterdam Airport Express provides a direct link to the city operating 24/7 and running every 7-10 min (from 5 am to 12 am). From midnight, the Niteliner N97 bus takes over.

Amsterdam Airport Express

The Schiphol bus 397 is the fastest and one of the most convenient ways to get to the central district of the capital (Olympic Stadium, Museumplein, Leidseplein, etc). The terminus is the Elandsgracht shelter which is a transfer hub for most regional and local transport. The bus could be a comfy mode of transportation from Amsterdam Airport to the hotel, as many guest houses are situated near the bus shelters.

To hop on, head to the bus shelter B15 at the main AMS lounge. A single Bus/Tram/Metro (BTM) voucher costs €6.50, an open return voucher is available for €11.75 and can be used within two weeks. Amsterdam metro line from Schiphol

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is not yet serviced by a metro line. However, with the appearance of the North-South metro line M52, an alternative means of transportation from Schiphol to Amsterdam central district is to catch the train running to Amsterdam Zuid (the cost of the 2nd class Amsterdam metro ticket is €4.30) and then transfer to M52.

At Amsterdam Zuid, you can change to the North-South metro going through the heart of the city including Europaplein (RAI), De Pijp, Vijzelgracht, Rokin (Dam Square/Spui), and the capital central stops. A train journey from AMS to Station Zuid, and on the Central Station by Metro 52 takes about 25-28 minutes.

Schiphol Airport tram to Amsterdam

Tram route 5 links Amsterdam Zuid to Museumplein, Leidseplein, and the city`s central terminal. From Amsterdam RAI, tram 4 provides a link to Amsterdam Centraal through the left bank of the Amstel River.

If you choose a tram as an Amsterdam transportation mode, you can purchase a GVB 1-hour pass which is valid for a 1-hour route on GVB public transport (bus/metro/tram). It costs €3.40 and is activated on first check-in. Please note that this voucher is not valid on the AMS Airport train.
